i can't see me loving nobody but you

I watched "Imagine Me & You" last night because [livejournal.com profile] dollsome told me to, and OH MY GOOOOOD. The story is just so enchanting and cleverly written, and though it does drift off into the land of slight cheesiness near the end, it is just so, SO, superb (and "Happy Together" - ONE OF MY FAVORITEST SONGS IN THE UNIVERSE - is the montage song at the end!).

And the acting, Jesus Christ. The cast is fantastic and while some parts make you feel like you are about to explode with GLEE, some parts hurt so much it's like they yanked your heart out of your chest and put it through a paper shredder. All the characters are so much fun and so realistic; from the main couple, Rachel and Luce (Luce is played by the incredible Lena Headey, and let me say, it is SO STRANGE to see her play a character who isn't constantly being kickass and shooting people in the face, at first, but she pulls it off INCREDIBLY), to H, Rachel's precocious and adorable little sister, to Hec, Rachel's husband (played by the amazing and drool-worthy Matthew Goode!) - which is especially lovely, since usually the antagonist in romantic comedies is a total caricature, and not sympathetic AT ALL. Everyone has wonderful chemistry, the relationships are well-formed and believable, and it's such a legitimately good movie. Also, who should show up at the end but ANGEL COULBY? Acting wonderfully Gwen-like and generally being adorable!

In addition, it is SO BEAUTIFUL. Like, full on "Notes On A Scandal" beautiful. So beautiful, that I felt the urge to picspam, and what was supposed to be a maybe 40 cap affair turned into 100+ caps. Er, oops?

They don't have it at your library? Wow. Libraryfail.

If you'd like, as part of my Quest of Bettering the World By Making People Read Watchmen and Question Everything They Thought They Knew About Graphic Novels and Superheroes, I'd be willing to lend you my copy of Watchmen. IDK if you're that interested, though. But I will say this: if you liked S1 of Heroes, you should like Watchmen, because the first season of Heroes is highly derivative of Watchmen. There are fewer characters and Watchmen is more thematically and structurally tight, but there are some definite similarities. And I don't know how else to sell it, because my OMGFLAILSQUEE is apparently not doing it, but trust me when I say it's the best thing I've read in a long time, and by far the movie I am most excited for this year.

And I will stop badgering you about this now, 'cause people badgered me about it, too, which just made me want to read it less, actually. Until I finally just sat down and did it, and then became a badgerer. XD

Also: *is now downloading Imagine Me & You instead of writing my essay*. Sigh. You are always so strangely compelling with these squee posts. D:

Ooh, I...am going to give you a tentative yes on that. But, you live across the country, do you not? I'd feel kind of terrible about making you pay shipping fees. D:

YAAAAAY! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. ♥

I KNOW, RIGHT?? Romcoms are pretty much my go-to genre! But this one is like the perfectest. Quirky characters and beautiful chemistry and GORGEOUS CINEMATOGRAPHY and heart-crushing angst and Matthew Goode?!? It is flippin' incomprehensible!

I think the only other romcom I hold in my heart with this much fondness is ... er ... The Mirror Has Two Faces, starring Barbra Streisand and Jeff Bridges. I feel like I should be more ashamed of that than I am, but come on! Geeky over-the-hill professors entering a marriage of convenience for the sake of companionship and intellectual harmony! It's like it was MADE FOR ME AND ME ALONE. Which is a pretty great arrangement, considering I sometimes think I am the only person in the world who likes it.

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, me too! I am contemplating making some just because NO ONE ELSE MAKES ANY.

[identity profile] firthgal.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo, I have this in my "must watch" list since ASH is in it, but it's waaaaay down on my list, so now I'm going to have move it to number 1. Even though you didn't provide me with any ASH sexiness to entice me. *sadface*

[identity profile] merelyn.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I knoooow. All of my searching has come up with nothing. :(

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
D:

Um, you're totally welcome to keep me friended, if you'd like? (It's not like you're missing much, seriously.) I mean, you are also equally welcome to run for the hills, but if you'd like to keep me friended, I'd be delighted to have you.

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, [livejournal.com profile] dollsome has made some delightfully pretty ones!

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I AM SO SORRY FOR THE LACK OF ASH CAPS, OK. I feel as if I have failed the Internet now, or something. SORRY, INTERNET.

But yes, he is INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL in this movie! HE LOVES THE SMELL OF HOTDOGS. THEY SMELL LIKE...HOTDOGS.

[identity profile] shadesofsienna.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww. That's all right, then. I'll definitely keep you, because your posts always cheer me up. ♥

[identity profile] aestheticized.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind! HONEST. Drop me an email or PM with your shipping address, yes? I'll send it out once I get a chance to get the post office. ♥

I WILL PROBABLY REGRET NOT WRITING MY ESSAY UNTIL ONE IN THE MORNING, BUT WILL PROBABLY LOVE THE MOVIE INTENSELY. BTW, I'm downloading Brideshead Revisted next, because I forgot how much I wanted to see it what with it not coming out in theatres where I live and then me going to college and being totally cut off from the world but now I am reminded. :DD

[identity profile] squaringkarma.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhhhh love this movie. As evidenced by the fact that Rachel and Luce were included in my OTP meme :P I also can't believe I had forgotten that Anthony Stewart Head was Rachel's dad. Actually, it's sort of understandable really because before I did the screencaps for the meme, the last time I saw this was before I watched Buffy, so I didn't really understand the flail for ASH until then :P

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
PMing you right after this!

Oh man, I have yet to study for my terrible history midterm which is TOMORROW AT EIGHT IN THE MORNING. I've been meaning to get off the Internet for the past hour, but then someone posts a new comment, and I answer it, and hey look, someone on my f-list posted again! AUUUUUUGH. Also, Brideshead Revisited!!! My love for that film was so epic I even made a FANMIX. GOODE/WHISHAW IS THE WAY IT SHOULD ALWAYS BEEEEE! (I really, really want to write Brideshead RPF. DAMN IT, SELF.)

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I am going to have to go back and check out your OTP meme answers! RACHEL/LUCE FOREVERRRRR. ♥

[identity profile] sophieisgod.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
(I really, really want to write Brideshead RPF. DAMN IT, SELF.)
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WOMAN, DON'T TEASE! But if you wanted to, I would tell you to go through all their interviews in my delicious, because OH BOYYYYS.

[identity profile] sophieisgod.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
But most of them don't even have actual powers! IT IS REALLY REALLY FUCKED-UP AND INTERESTING! And most of them have weird power complexes and some of them have weird sex issues and DID I MENTION JDM BEING THE BADDEST BADASS EVER TO BADASS? It's disturbingly awesome!

[identity profile] sophieisgod.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
TRAGEDY :(

Well, this is only going off the BBC Shop listing, but the Vol.2 DVD (2 WEEKS, 2 WEEKS!) apparently has new video diaries? IDK. IF NOT I WILL MAKE A FUSS, DAMMIT.

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
WOMAAAAN, I AM SUPPOSED TO BE STUDYING FOR MIDTERMS, OK. DON'T YOU DARE TEMPT ME WITH INTERVIEWS, AND THE TANTALIZING THOUGHT OF WRITING ABOUT BOYS IN LOVE INSTEAD OF WRITING ABOUT WILLIAM G. HARDING.

Also, I do not know if I should actually write it! I DON'T WANT TO BE KNOWN AS GIRL-WHO-WRITES-RPS-FOR-EVERYTHING-EVER. Eh, who am I kidding? THAT'D BE A PRETTY AWESOME TITLE.

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Dammit, YOU WIN. YOU AND MOLLY HAVE BROKEN MY (NOT EXACTLY CONSIDERABLE) BRICK WALL OF DENIAL.

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally irrelevent, but - I AM FEELING THE URGE TO SWAP ALL MY ICONS AGAIN.

MATTHEW IN WATCHMEN. OR Watchmen in general. adkjfa;lsdja;lskjfd makes me so happy. The graphic novel itself was amazing and whenever stuff comes out about the movie I have a minor tweak fest.

I'm sorry I just spammed your comment.

BUT I'M JUST TOO EXCITED FOR VEIDT/OZY/MATTHEW

[identity profile] dollsome.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
OH NOOOOO! Me too. What? WHAT?

What's wrong with us??

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
IT IS A DEADLY DISEASE, I'M SURE.

I think I would live without extra userpics at this point. Why? IT IS RARE THAT I EVER GET MORE THAN 50 UPLOADED WITHOUT GOING ON A DELETING FRENZY.

[identity profile] dollsome.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you there! Past Me is all, 'Um, you still have 53 spaces free, friend. Why the hell do you feel the all-consuming urge to delete everything and start over?' And Present Me just DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO DEFEND MYSELF!

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I confess, I kind of want to read the graphic novel JUST SO I CAN GET WHAT'S GOING ON AROUND THE F-LIST.
