WOW. Just...wow. Guys, if you haven't given Veronica Mars a chance, do me a favor and just try out the first five or six episodes. The first season blew me out of the freaking water with a mix of snappy writing, stunning color, and emotion. VM is like a fantastic mix of three or four of my favorite shows, but has the strongest connections to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (kickass, little blonde takes down the bad guys) and Gossip Girl (Veronica's relationships to Duncan and Logan especially, but also the slight similarities between the UESers and the 09ers). However, I find the way Veronica solves mysteries to have less of an Alias feel and more like this awesome mashup between Chuck, Psych, and Supernatural.
Anyway, if you're even slightly interested, drop me a comment and I'll link you!
Shallowness. THE PRETTY OF THIS SHOW CONSUMES ME. Picspam time.

Plottiness. Uh, holy shit, is all I have to say. I am very amused by the irony of my last post with regard to the fact that Aaron killed Lily. I also loved the reveal that Duncan raped Veronica. The scene where Veronica confronts him about it is especially powerful. I adored the last scene with Lily, lit with the lovely, golden glow instead of the sharp, green that came with all the Lily hallucinations this season. I was really impressed by how the writers made it nearly impossible for me to completely hate any of the characters, I mean, Lamb might stay a jackass, but he does become sort of awesome, and it's so difficult to hate Celeste for just wanting to protect Duncan, and even though Aaron is psychotic and abusive bastard, he really tried to bring his family together after Lynne died, and - just. I do not like Lianne Mars very much, though. OH, and lastly, everytime someone pulls out their phone on VM, it really bugs me because THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN, EVER, AT ANY HIGH SCHOOL I'VE EVER HEARD OF. I randomly love the teacher that was all, "VERONICA, you know the school's cell phone policy. Now, give me that."
Shippiness. OK, moment of truth! I have to admit it: I am a Duncan/Veronica shipper. THEY'RE JUST SO VERY ADORABLE WHEN DUNCAN IS OFF HIS MEDS, OK? I CAN'T HELP IT. And going hand in hand with that, I...am not too fond of Logan/Veronica. Their relationship just seemed to move WAY too fast for me. I did love the adorable bathroom makeout scene in "M.A.D." (especially because it reminded me very strongly of the Chuck/Blair makeout scene in Gossip Girl's "Hi Society", right down to the "let's not tell my kind-of boyfriend/best friend about this, OK? Because that might kill him"). I just wish things had stayed like that minus all the grand declarations and stuff for a couple of episodes. I also really enjoyed Keith/Alicia; Wallace's mom is hardcore awesome. Ultimately though, my OTP is the Duncan/Veronica/Logan/Lilly quadrilateral - in pretty much all permutations, because I've found I don't really mind Logan/Veronica in fic if there is weird and complicated subtext behind it.
The Mars Family. I was so happy that Keith was Veronica's father that I burst into tears when he whipped out the paternity test. Keith and Veronica's relationship is so freaking awesome because while not normal, it's just so supportive and stable. I do not have much to say about Keith and Veronica; basically, they stay awesome.
The Kane Family. Oh, boy. I am surprised by how much I adore the Kanes, especially considering I started off the series only liking Lilly. But God, it makes me so sad how this poor family got torn to shreds, especially seeing their flashback life. Damn.
The Echolls Family. The thing I love most about them is how despite the fact that none of the Echolls' really seem to like each other, they all love each other (well, to some degree). I really liked Logan's reaction over Trina's abusive boyfriend and how ANGRY he gets, especially given how he and Trina get along most of the time. And how after Lynne dies, Aaron attempts to try and be a good father, even though he fucks it up 90% of the time.
Other Awesome People. First, Wallace, his and Veronica's friendship is so WONDERFUL AND SUPPORTIVE. Snickerdoodles! I also really love Meg. I think Alona Tal is infinitely better on VM than on Supernatural. Mostly because her Pantene Pro-V waves of gorgeous fit in much better when she's playing an 09er. CARRIE BISHOP! Played by Leighton! Awesomely bitchy and ostracized because of a scandal with a man named Chuck! Going through hellfire for her best friend! Carrie = Blair Waldorf, y/y? Also, am very amused by the fact that Casey is Aaron Samuels from Mean Girls, and that one really artistic dude who's girlfriend was raped by her stepfather is played by Adam Kaufman, who has been on everything, ever.

Anyway. :p I'm so excited that you like this, considering you're just about the last person on my flist to get into VM. This show was my absolute favorite until Buffy, and in a lot of ways it still is. (To make things easier, I just say they're both my favorite.) The one thing I ever regret about it is that it was supposed to air on HBO -- and it would have been so, so amazing if that happened, because A) they would have been able to do a LOT more with it than UPN let them, B) it would have been truer to its noir element, and C) we'd get to hear the characters curse. (Because in a town like Neptune, you just know they all have sailors' mouths.)
Yeah, I kind of grinned when you said in your last post that you hoped it'd be Aaron but didn't think it was. I love hearing thoughts as other people watch shows/films I've already seen, because it's just fun to see how spot on/far from the truth people are without realizing it. :p
I pretty much agree wholeheartedly with what you've said about S1, except (and you know what's coming): YOU DON'T LIKE LOGAN/VERONICA? AND YOU LIKE DUNCAN/VERONICA? SERIOUSLY?
Okay, so I guess I get it. You must have heard a lot about the wonderfulness that is L/V, and it just didn't deliver. A lot of things are only as awesome as people say they are if you experience it first-hand, rather than hear how awesome it is and then watch it. (If that makes any sense at all.) It's like me and not liking Star Wars, or people not liking The Dark Knight after it's been out for three months. But not all of what made me love L/V was in S1. Nowhere near, in fact. You may just change your mind. (Maybe.) And even if you don't, that's fine. It nowhere near makes up the show -- there's so many more elements to love, which you've already discovered S1. And I don't think D/V fans were left disappointed, either. Though admittedly, you're in the minority. ;)
Wow, sorry for the novel! :p
ETA: In my haste to post this, I forgot to say how pretty your picspam is! Yay for the prettiness!
And did you start S2 yet?

Wait, HBO, seriously? OH THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO AWESOME
and we could've seen Logan without his shirt on more often. You must have heard a lot about the wonderfulness that is L/V, and it just didn't deliver. A lot of things are only as awesome as people say they are if you experience it first-hand, rather than hear how awesome it is and then watch it. (If that makes any sense at all.)
YES, THAT IS IT EXACTLY. Going into Buffy, I heard a lot about Buffy/Spike, and for four seasons I was assured that they were perfect and awesome and I'd love them once I got to "Fool for Love", none of which happened for me, because of how much people built it up. Also, see why I don't like Rose that much. Discovering that she is not, actually, a flawless human being was something of a slap in the face, and why things like her selfishness stood out in high contrast, compared to her good points.
I'm still holding out hope that I'll like L/V though! To be honest, I think it might be the generic formula for L/V I dislike more than the ship itself, the whole "Bad boy falls for good girl who then cures him of said badness! Le gasp!" thing very rarely does it for me (an exception would be Tim/Lyla on FNL, but I think that's it). If the writers can stray from the usual storyline such a relationship would take, I can see myself getting invested. ANYWAY, WE SHALL SEE.
Thank you! VM caps are the prettiest things on this earth. :D
I have! I'm currently up to "Cheatty Cheatty Bang Bang", and I'm enjoying S2 very much. So far, it doesn't have the impact that S1 carried, but I'm still really invested in the characters, if not the storylines (give me a few more episodes, I'll get in to the bus crash thing eventually). I was extremely flabbergasted, if pleased, about the fact that Veronica and Duncan are going out, and I am liking Logan's reaction to the relationship (and Duncan's reaction to Logan's reaction). Also, CHARISMA CARPENTER! Girl just gets hotter as she ages, holy shit.

Though this is, to an extent, what Logan/Veronica is, it's also so far from what Logan/Veronica is that it's kind of crazy. They're like the amazingly failed version of that where the good girl is actually just as fucked up as the bad boy and they end up slowly emotionally destroying each other while also being completely perfect for each other if they could just get their acts together.
. . . If that makes you feel any better?
