a fragment of light // brideshead revisited // charles/sebastian

Title: A Fragment Of Light
Fandom: Brideshead Revisited (2008)
Pairing: Charles/Sebastian
Spoilers/Warnings (if any): General spoilers for the movie.
Notes: Because this movie ate my LIFE, and Charles/Sebastian makes my heart all light and fluttery in a way that is usually reserved for pairings that are on my TV screen for more than one hour and forty minutes. Special thanks goes to [livejournal.com profile] dollsome, whose awesome picspam made me watch the movie in the first place (and who provided the caps for the cover art). Enjoy! Comment if you download, and all that jazz.

A Fragment Of Light - Mediafire

01. THE HUSH SOUND you are the moon
You don't see what you possess, a beauty calm and clear
It floods the sky and blurs the darkness like a chandelier
All the light that you possess is skewed by lakes and seas
The shattered surface, so imperfect, is all that you believe

02. COLDPLAY strawberry swing
I remember, we were walking up to strawberry swing
I can't wait until the morning, wouldn't wanna change a thing

People moving all the time inside a perfectly straight line
Don't you wanna curve away?
When it's such, it's such a perfect day

03. AIR venus
You could live in the sea, and I could be a bird
We would be together, lovers forever, care for each other

04. ANNA NALICK
forever love (digame)
When you smile with those eyes
Baby, it's like you place a finger on my heart
And your lips next to mine
Make me think that maybe heaven's where you are

05. K’S CHOICE
almost happy
If I could look beyond your face, and photograph your hidden place
Would I find you smiling in the picture?
I don't know what you want, because you don't know
So what's the point of asking?

You're almost happy, almost content, but your head hurts

06. ELBOW red
Come as you are, sweetheart, come as you are
You know you've got nothing to prove
I'll put you bed, you can let it all go
You've been playing too rough lately

You burn too bright, you live too fast

07. IMOGEN HEAP
clear the area
You find your way back down, and I'll keep the area clear, please clear the area
When you find your way back down, in one piece
Then I'll just be waiting here, right here

Low light, mercury morning
No need to stay, as it's always nothing
But your eyes tell a whole other story, and I feel the weight of the world

08. HEATHER NOVA heart and shoulder
If I rained for you, it would just be water
And the night's with you, and the storm's in your hand
And you're down and you're down, and I can't lift you

09. A FINE FRENZY
ashes & wine
Don’t know if our fate’s already sealed, this day’s a spinning circus on a wheel
I’m ill with the thought of your kiss, coffee-laced, intoxicating on her lips

10. COLDPLAY
the scientist
Nobody said it was easy, it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy, no one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start

11. KREZIP all my life
You have to go and leave me, don't make it so hard just run
It's not that big a thing, you're on the other side of town

I don't want to, don't like to, there has to be a better way
I don't like it, but there's nothing left to say

12. A FINE FRENZY
almost lover
Goodbye, my almost lover, goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you, can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance, my back is turned on you
Should have known you'd bring me heartache, almost lovers always do

13. CATHERINE FEENY
hurricane glass
I counted all the tiles plastered on my hotel ceiling
Then drank through my two fingers, just to see how I was feeling
And I tried to call you on the phone, but the line was dead, or you weren't home

And it's not what I wanted, oh no, it's not what I planned
See it's not where I thought I'd be, it's just where I am

14. SNOW PATROL
set the fire to the third bar feat. martha wainwright
I find the map and draw a straight line, over rivers, farms, and state lines
The distance from 'A' to where you'd be, it's only finger-lengths that I see
I touch the place where I'd find your face, my finger in creases of distant dark places

15. THE DECEMBERISTS
after the bombs
After the bombs subside, and this long, low campaign calls it good for the night
We meet in the streets, will we meet in a bar’s cold light?
We grip at our hands, we hold just a little tight

Ahem. JAFLKSAJOIA3UA3985JWAEFOLEJAFLKFJDLKAJFALKFJDAL;

AND NOW I AM GOING TO GO AND ACTUALLY LOOK AT IT.

[identity profile] dollsome.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, God, this is so totally beautiful. My heart went from being all bouncy with joy ("Strawberry Swing," yesssss! And "YOU ARE THE MOON," which is so friggin' beautiful for Charles/Sebastian that I can't even deal with it) to achey from the tragic angst of them. And, oh, I looove ending on "After the Bombs," which is so weary but has that tiny flicker of hope, because HI, neither of them are dead at the end, they could so reunite. Somehow. Angstily.

I think I'm going to have to be sneaky and download this one. It is NECESSARY to my LIFE. I'm so glad I influenced you to watch this movie!

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Eeeeee, I am so glad you like it, because, after all, you were essential in its CREATION. ♥

(I just finished watching Imagine Me & You and OHHHHHH MY GOOOOD!!!! SUCH PERFECTION. SO PRETTY, AND LOVELY, AND SOUL CRUSHING AT THE SAME TIME. LENA HEADEY!!! MATTHEW GOODE (I started crying when he and Rachel's little siss were on the rooftop! I AM PROBABLY THE ONLY PERSON WHO CRIES MORE DURING ROMANTIC COMEDIES THAN DRAMAS)!!! PIPER PERABO!!! ASH!!! PRECOCIOUS LITTLE KIDS, AND AMAZING LIGHTING, AND "HAPPY TOGETHER" (ONE OF MY FAVORITEST SONGS IN THE UNIVERSE), AND SLIGHTLY CHEESY BUT WONDERFUL ENDINGS, AND - AND!!!)

[identity profile] dollsome.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
(RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT?!?! Ohhhhhh, it is so one of my favourite movies EVER! ♥ ♥ I'm suddenly sad that I'm not watching it RIGHT NOW.)

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
(Man, I just downloaded 4943905439583409 caps to picspam with! And am totally feeling the urge to FANMIX MADLY even though I should be doing other things like sleeping, and STUDYING. (Pshaw, my fannish endeavors take priority over stuff like that ANY TIME.)

[identity profile] marn-barn.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Still haven't seen the movie because I'm waiting until I read the book, but this fanmix looks amazing. I'm definitely getting it, and I will be joining you in the fandom shortly :P

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you muchly! And tell me how the book is; I've been thinking of reading it too. :D

[identity profile] styromgalleries.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Gonna warn you, the book is verrrrry different from the movie (as usually happens). I saw the movie first, wasn't terribly impressed, though I thought the score was to die for, and then read the book. It was interesting. I'm not sure what to think of it. I liked it better than the movie. And the author Evelyn Waugh has a very nice style.

The thing that's missing from the movie that was such a big focus on the book is Catholicism. I mean, it's in the movie, but it is featured so much more prominently in the novel, just all of these people's struggle with belief and unbelief and how those beliefs and traditions shape their lives and the lives of those around them. Like I said, it's very interesting.

[identity profile] marn-barn.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well yeah, I figured it would be different. I just feel like I'm cheating if I see the movie and don't read the book, it's this insane guilt I get from being a writing major :P It's good to hear that you liked the book, hopefully I'll have the same impression :)

[identity profile] aeternitasbeach.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
found this through dollsome's lj and asdsfasdsalj WHOA. I haven't even seen the movie yet but you've got some of my favourite songs on here so I'm going to give the rest of it a definite go (and get my hands on Brideshead Revisited asap)

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Enjoy! :D

Ohhh, this is delicious! BOYS, STOP MAKING ME CRY, OKAY. Especially you, Whishaw.

Ahhh, you used Elbow! And The Hush Sound! And God, "Venus" is perfection. ♥

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Venus" is the song that STARTED IT ALL. Enjoy, bb!

[identity profile] sequinedfairy.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
This looks AWESOME, thank you! And now I really want to go see this movie instead of a stupid horror movie my friends are making me see. I like fluff better!

Thank you so much, all of the songs look really cool.

And I adore your cover art :D

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
This movie is very, very, lovely, but fluff it most certainly is not (past the first half hour). BEWARE, IT WILL TRAMPLE YOUR HEART TO DEATH. Er, anyway. Enjoy!

[identity profile] x-xblackout.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, ILY! :D Okay, I actually prefer the original with Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews, but I really like this, so can I pretend it's for the old one, hehe? XD

This is amazing, though, really. I haven't actually got to the end of the series yet; I have two more episodes to watch yet, but this is lovely ♥

x

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I'm pretty sure it would work! I haven't seen the original (or even read the book) yet, but I've been assured that it's totally awesome.

Enjoy!

[identity profile] fakelunacy.livejournal.com 2009-01-25 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen the movie or read the book, but I'm going to because of this fanmix, hehe. Grabbing it, thanks!

Oh my word; I just made some sort of strange noise. Brideshead fanmix, and it's Charles/Sebastian. I've never heard of you before, but I love you for this. I reread Brideshead Revisited recentley, and forgot how tragically romantic it all is.

Thank you~

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Enjoy! ♥

DOWNLOADING RIGHT NOW.

Also, I have written some Brideshead fic - it was from the tv series, but it works just as well with the film - that has never seen the light of the internet. Would you be interested?

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhhh, hell YES I would be interested! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

[identity profile] moogle62.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall email it to you! There are two, but one is awful. BOTH OF THEM ARE ENTIRELY GRATUITOUSLY ABOUT THE BOYS IN LOVE.
