Doctor Who/Torchwood Ladies US Recasting
(New Series)
Rose Tyler; Portrayed by Kristen Bell ![]() |
I feel slightly guilty putting KBell in this role since I feel that she gets put into a lot of recasty type things just so people can use her for something. But to me Kristen fits because the unique thing about Rose was how many people really loved her. Billie Piper just had this insane charisma no matter what she was doing or what lines she was reciting, and I think that's something Kristen shares. People automatically LOVE her. Is there a more unviersally loved actress, seriously? Also, her smiles lights up a room like nothing else. Martha Jones; Portrayed by Zoe Saldana ![]() To be honest, I really do not know much about Zoe Saldana (although I'm pretty sure that she was the female pirate in the Pirates of the Carribean movies). Except she's exactly what I always pictured American!Martha looking like: gorgeous, smart, lots of sharp angles. Donna Noble; Portrayed by Susan Sarandon ![]() Oh, the picture that started it all. Susan Sarandon screams Donna to me, and is the only choice in this post that I'm rock solid on. She's definitely got the appropriate look (well, she's older than Donna, but it still works), and she's such a marvelous actress. I've seen her pull off both comedic and dramatic roles, and the woman is never not fantastic. Plus, she exudes this air of fabulousness that is VERY Donna Noble. Gwen Cooper; Portrayed by Keri Russell ![]() I think the reason why Gwen is a generally unpopular character is because she's basically the Rose Tyler of Torchwood, but Eve Myles is missing whatever it is that Billie Piper lent the character. What I love about Keri is that she's very good at pulling off strength with vulnerability, which - as much as I love Eve - I think Gwen was severely lacking in during Torchwood's first season. My problem with Gwen was that while Jack clearly found her amazing, the writing on the show wasn't solid enough that we could see it too, in which case the actor has to do convey that extra bit across, and Eve Myles wasn't all that spectacular with that at first. I think the quiet strength Keri gives off would effectively push the message over. Toshiko Sato; Portrayed by Maki Gato ![]() Yeah, I cannot even pretend this one is anything but gratuitous. Maki is actually a Japanese popstar, but Asian-American actresses are suprisingly difficult to find, so I ended up subbing her in. Anyway, the obvious problem with Maki is that she's a bit too young (though I think that's to be expected with most American TV shows), and her sex appeal is through the roof. But I really think if she toned down on the super, shiny lipgloss, threw on a pair of dorky glasses, and wore more clothes (and spoke English, obviously) that she'd make a believable Tosh. |
